About Huma Finance
Huma Finance is a PayFi network built on Solana that bridges real-world payment flows with on-chain liquidity. Its core business is cross-border payment financing: through its Swiss-regulated subsidiary Arf, it provides short-term working capital to licensed payment institutions, enabling them to settle cross-border transactions instantly (T+0) rather than waiting days for traditional correspondent banking. Lenders (LPs) deposit stablecoins into a pool, earning yields from transaction fees (6-10 basis points per transaction, typically 1-6 day terms). The key distinction from P2P lending is that borrowers are regulated financial institutions with KYC/KYB checks, and funds are locked in safeguarding accounts with legal claims on the underlying payment flows.
Huma's competitive moat lies in its 'real payment flow' model—financing actual payment transactions rather than invoices or receivables, which reduces default risk. It also employs structured risk mitigation: first-loss coverage and tranched risk layers. As of early 2026, Arf has processed over $3.9 billion in volume with zero defaults since inception (883+ days). The platform transitioned to a permissionless model (Huma 2.0) in April 2025, allowing anyone to become an LP while maintaining institutional-grade compliance.
Market pain points addressed: traditional cross-border payments are slow (2-5 days), costly (SWIFT fees), and require pre-funding. Huma eliminates pre-funding needs, accelerates settlement, and reduces costs via stablecoins and on-chain rails.
Recent developments (Mar-Sep 2026): continued expansion of the Arf lending pool, deeper Solana ecosystem integrations, and growth in trade finance and marketplace seller payout use cases. However, risks remain: the product is non-principal-protected (no government insurance), and a default by any partner financial institution could cause losses. Community debates have compared it to P2P lending, though management emphasizes institutional borrowers and legal recourse mechanisms.
Huma Finance's V1 contract was attacked, resulting in the theft of approximately $101,000 USDC and exposing early security vulnerabilities.
Huma joined the Global Dollar Network to promote stablecoin adoption on Solana, marking a strategic expansion of its PayFi network.
